Covid Adaptions for Kings Camps

Due to COVID-19, some of our operating procedures have been amended in line with the latest government guidance as detailed below. We’ll continue to keep this information up to date in line with the government’s easing of restrictions, so please check back for updates before you begin work.

Having worked with over 2 million children throughout our 30-year history, we understand how to create safe environments where children can be active, have fun and learn with others.

In response to the unique challenge of COVID-19, we have developed and tested COVID-specific operating procedures, and these will be integrated into our standard operating procedures.

Our guiding principle for all policies and procedures is that we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Safer recruitment is central to the way we work and all staff and volunteers are expected to share our commitment to safeguarding, always creating an environment where young people feel safe and can thrive.

COVID-specific procedures will be integrated into staff training, and our audit process to ensure they are adhered to.

Our procedures apply to all Kings Camps stakeholders including parents, programme personnel and venue personnel.

1. Self-Declaration

We all have a personal responsibility with Covid-19, it’s therefore important that you do not attend camp or Induction day if you or anyone in your household have:

• Been displaying symptoms of Coronavirus (check these here)
• Received a positive PCR or lateral flow test result
• Been told to self-isolate via NHS Track and Trace
• Recently travelled from abroad and need to isolate on your return to the UK

If any of the above apply, you may be putting others at risk and must contact us (0114 263 2155/ info@kingsrecruit.com) as a priority.

2. Testing

Twice-weekly lateral flow testing is strongly encouraged for all staff. Lateral flow tests aim to give a result within 30 minutes, therefore we recommend these are administered the Wednesday prior to your camp induction and again the day prior to induction. During camp, these should be administered the evening before the first day on site, and mid-week thereafter.

If you have not previously had a test, you can get tested in one of the following ways:

1. Get tested at a local authority testing site – find a site near you
2. Collect a test at a local testing site – find a site near you
3. Order a test to your home (tests should arrive within 2 days) – click here to get started

Results: If you receive a positive test result for Covid-19, do not attend camp or induction day. You must inform us (0114 263 2155/ info@kingsrecruit.com) as a priority, sending proof of your positive test result.

3. Social Distancing

In light of the new delta variant, we must be vigilant to ensure appropriate social distancing between staff and groups. To support this we have the following in place:

• Risk-assessed facilities and space in line with maximum child numbers
• Full-week extended bookings only
• Child groups maintained throughout the week, with a consistent group leader
• Activities to be adapted to ensure distancing, including equipment adaptions
• Lead activities outdoors wherever possible
• Staggered breaks and lunchtimes where facilities don’t allow multiple groups
• Parents will not be allowed into the venue other than to a registration perimeter for contactless registration

4. Hygiene

Core principle: higher levels of hygiene are required

• Parents encouraged to provide their children with personal hand-sanitiser and face mask (11 years and above, from 5 years in Scotland)
• Staff expected to provide; and have with them at all times; personal hand-sanitiser and face mask
• Staff and children to wash their hands, either with hand-sanitiser, or at wash-basins, each time they enter and exit the site
• Stringent hand washing policy that includes before and after each activity session, breaks, lunchtimes and after toilet breaks
• Staff responsible for regular hygiene reminders
• When tending to First Aid; staff MUST wear a mask whilst examining or treating a child, wear protective gloves and wash hands afterwards
• Doors to be kept open where possible, especially for sports halls, toilets and changing rooms
• Adapted and restricted activities that involve touch
• Regular cleaning of equipment and high-touch facilities by Kings staff (in addition to regular facility cleaning by venue)
• When moving around indoors, staff and children age 11+ are encouraged to wear a face mask where corridors are narrow and social distancing is difficult to maintain

5. Supervising children

Core principle: prioritising distancing and hygiene

• Staff to supervise hand-washing for under 8s and monitor over 8s
• Staff to be vigilant about signs of infection and follow government guidelines for responding to infection
• High priority to enforce distancing and hygiene practices listed in 1&2

6. Suspected cases on site

We are following the latest regulations for education and childcare settings to react safely to any Covid-19 cases. If you, or a child in your group receives a positive Covid-19 test result, you will need to isolate for 10 days and produce proof of a negative PCR test result before returning to camp.

You will be informed by your Site Manager or Head Office if you are directly affected by any children within your group.
